We are currently looking for an experienced Highway Design Engineer to join a reputable highways service provider on a contract basis in Bedfordshire. Our client has a wealth of knowledge and experience delivering a range of multi-disciplinary services to road networks to local authorities across the UK. Due to an increasing workload, they are seeking an enthusiastic Highway Design Engineer to join their expert team on an initial 3 month contract.

The selected candidate will be working on an array of traffic engineering / highways improvement schemes, and will have a range of responsibilities including:

- Designing traffic engineering/highways design schemes within the current legislative framework
- Assisting with the preparation of project reports
- Attending meetings to provide technical support as appropriate
- Preparing and assisting with the management and monitoring pf works programmes or services
- Ensuring schemes are delivered on time and within budget
- Assisting with the management and provision of technical support
- Supporting Health and Safety, Environmental Management System and Quality Management System
- Ensuring tight budgetary control and financial management is undertaken throughout areas of responsibility

Key skills, experience and attributes required for this role are:

- Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
- Experience within a similar role, working on highways projects
- Extensive knowledge and application of Highway Legislation, including Traffic Site Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD)
- Extensive knowledge of design procedures, guidance, and standards
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with specialist CAD software including AutoCAD
- Membership, or working towards membership, of relevant professional institution
- Ability to travel throughout central Bedfordshire
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines
