As a Chief Information Officer at HS2 you will lead the development, implementation and sustenance of HS2's IT strategy that enables the Programme to have secure, efficient and cutting edge IT & Digital systems in place. This will provide a leading business systems platform through which all stakeholder organisations across the Programme, including the supply chain, can interact with consistently, rapidly and cost effectively. Act as the functional "authority" for all processes, systems and people within IT, providing senior level leadership of the CIO's business area.

About the role:
  • Lead the innovative development and implementation a route-wide technology and information plan and processes to support HS2 in the development of the strategic direction and business priorities for the development of HS2's business management and construction industry technology tools.
  • Lead the management of current and any new technology suppliers to HS2 Ltd to ensure there are appropriate systems to support the programme efficiently, effectively and ensuring value for money.
  • Maximise any investment and benefits, plus reusing and sharing of components such as engineering systems, databases, web services, document management, other enterprise wide applications internally and with external partners through the creation of a fully integrated Business Systems Platform.
  • Key influencer of policy and strategies related to the underpinning digital, technology and information aspects of the HS2 programme with the Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, DfT, other government departments as well as the rail and construction industry.
  • Ensure the exchange of best practice, develop cross-government and industry strategic direction particularly in relation to BIM, leading on the digital and technology elements, the move to commodity shared services and the development of Government as a Platform;

About You:
  • Ability to operate at an executive/senior leadership level
  • Ability to operate at a senior level in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management, and policy development in public or private sector, with deep expertise and experience
  • Digitally and technologically literate and capable of effectively engaging with technical staff, suppliers and stakeholders to define the best approach to service design to achieve business/user objectives
  • A background of rail or large construction programmes or large transformation programmes inside or outside government may be an advantage
