Health and Safety Adviser

C. Brown & Sons (Steel) Ltd, a well-established, friendly, family run company with over 70 years service in steel and currently requires a Health and Safety Adviser to join the team based in Dudley, West Midlands.Working 37.5 hours a week Mon – Fri 08.30 to 17.00, the ideal Health and Safety Adviser will receive a competitive salary of £24,000 – £29,000 depending on experience plus private health insurance, profit share, pension scheme and 25 days holidays with long service bonuses.

Established for over 70 years, C Brown and Sons is a family business offering a wealth of knowledge and experience in steel stockholding and it's distribution. In addition we are able to offer a complete service in the toll processing of other companies material.

Answering to the Operations Director, duties of the Health and Safety Adviser will include:

- Advising on all aspects of health and safety in a medium size business.

- Managing the documentation, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work systems.

- Ensuring compliance with relevant H&S legislation.

- Conducting inspections and audits of the site.

- Managing and conducting H&S inductions for new starters, visitors and contractors.

- Training of employees on H&S matters.

- To keep up to date with all relevant legislative changes.

- To identify and instil best practice in all H&S and environmental matters.

Skills, knowledge and experience required by the Health and Safety Adviser:

- Nebosh Diploma or equivalent (minimum). Any additional H&S and environmental qualifications beneficial.

- Experience in a similar industry beneficial.

- Self motivated

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

- Ability to find realistic and practical solutions to problems.

- Ability to influence and encourage change.

- Ability to prioritise a heavy workload.
