Who will I be working with?

In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. The company designs, manufactures and installs radiation shielding and other products in the nuclear, medical and other markets.

So, what will the role of Laser Operator entail?

Reporting to the Fabrication Shop Manager, as a Laser Operator you’ll be responsible for the programming and operation of CNC laser cutting machines to ensure that jobs meet production requirements. Your responsibilities and duties will include, although not be limited to:

  • Setting and operating laser to run jobs in line with production requirements
  • Punching, laser cutting, folding and final assembly of finished products
  • Loading and unloading materials for the laser
  • Operating the brake press as and when required
  • Ensuring that the quality of the product meets quality assurance standards
  • Overseeing levels of stock to ensure adequate levels are maintained
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and cleaning of the laser
  • Using guillotines and hand tools when necessary

What will I need to be considered for this Laser Operator vacancy?

  • Proven experience working as a Laser Operator
  • Working knowledge of aspects of sheet metal cutting, forming and sheet metal parts manufacture
  • Ability to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Good standard of education
  • Superb communication skills
  • Good IT literacy
  • Ability to work using own initiative, as well as part of a team

Experience working on LVD machines would be advantageous, although not essential.

What will I receive in return?

Salary: Starting at £9.06 per hour, moving to £10.11 following probation (equivalent to £16,960 - £18,925 per annum)

Additional Benefits: Contributory pension scheme following successful probation period, cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes, and free car parking.

Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday, 7am to 4:30pm

Contracted Hours: 36 hours per week

Location: Chester (Cheshire)
