Mechanical Design Engineer - Wellingborough - 40,000 - 45,000

I m currently working with a privately owned European giant that specialises in Process Control and Instrumentation in supporting them recruiting a Mechanical Development Engineer for their sizeable, talented and multi-disciplined engineering team (Physicists, Mechanical, Electronic and Software Engineers).

You will be working in a relaxed open plan office in a role that offers a variety and exposure to cutting edge technologies.

The role will involve working on various internal projects ranging from 1K - multi million from concept through to completion on new and existing products with responsibility for simulation and pressure equipment.

Your role will encompass; Design and development of companys flagship product by use of SolidWorks CAD software, ANSYS simulation software and other tools and techniques as required; Conducting structural integrity calculations relating to pressure safety requirements and compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive; Take a proactive role in reviewing and developing the simulation techniques in the design and development by using the ANSYS suite of simulation software. (ANSYS Mechanical, Maxwell, Fluent).

In order to carry out this role you will need the vast majority of the skills below:
  • Knowledge of ANSYS APDL, Workbench and AIM environments would be an advantage
  • Strong track record using simulation software (preferably ANSYS) conducting modal, thermal, stress (elastic and plastic) and fatigue analyses.
  • Solid background of working with pressure vessel and process piping design standards typically EN 13445, EN 13480 and ASME B31.3
  • Mechanical 3D CAD Design using Solidworks.
  • Design of industrial instruments and/or process plant equipment.
  • Core mechanical engineering theory including stress analysis, dynamics, thermodynamics and fluids
Other skills that would be beneficial to have:
  • Pressure equipment design
  • Knowledge of special materials such as austenitic and Duplex stainless steels, hastelloy, titanium, tantalum etc.
  • Knowledge of permanent joining methods such as welding, brazing, adhesive bonding etc.
  • An interest in and understanding of physics/general science and mechanics as applicable to transducer operation.
