THE COMPANY

Were searching for a skilled Quality Engineer/Responsible Welding Coordinator to work for a leading industrial manufacturer based in Middlesbrough. This is a great opportunity to work for a leading organisation within their industry and grow and develop with the business. The role involves the responsibilities of both a Quality Engineer and a Responsible Welding Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role within an expanding organisation to ensure all quality controls are managed and maintained efficiently.

THE ROLE

The Quality Engineer will ensure that all quality assurance and quality control deliverables are effectively managed. The Engineer will also work alongside the welding and coating operations and act as a Coordinator to ensure their performance is of a high standard and operations are delivered smoothly.

Other duties of the role include:

Create project quality plans, as well as project inspection and test plans.
Act as the main point of contact for customer complaints and resolve issues as appropriate.
Get involved with project handover and kick off meetings.
Facilitate the completion of NCRs.
Carry out internal and external audits.
Work in line with continual improvement initiatives and contribute towards analysis of quality related data.
Support Product Development and Lean projects.
Carry out quality control inspections when required.
Report to and support the Quality Manager as and when required.
Support the document control aspects of the business including the processes for delivering the MRBs/Data Dossiers to the clients.
Check and approve material certificates.

The Quality Engineer will also take on responsibilities of a Responsible Welding Coordinator and manage the welding control processes, as well as ISO3834 and BS EN ISO-1090 certifications. Carry out, maintenance, inspection, testing and audits across welding operations, key duties include:

Review of project weld and coating requirements.
Maintain & Monitor Weld Equipment (Inc Calibration and PPE).
Technical review of required joints.
Support in the evaluation of subcontractors Welding.
Review coating procedures from subcontractors for suitability.
Assist in production planning for welding activities.
Co-ordination of weld procedure qualification.
Maintain WPS Library.
Inspection and testing pre, post and during weld.
Manage all product related NCRs that arise from the production department and in inspection activities.
Plan and coordinate PWHT.
Provide support on NCs.
Maintain traceability (weld logs).
Prepare necessary documentation for retention or MRB submission.
Perform coatings inspections (both galvanized and painted).

THE EXPERIENCE

Qualifications:

A minimum HNC/NC Engineering discipline.
BGAS/NACE/ICOR Coating Inspection Level 2.
Welding Specialist or CSWIP RWC or similar technical qualifications.
PCN Level 2 MPI/DPI/RT/UT (desirable)
MPI Operator Qualification (desirable)
Level 3 Qualification in a Quality Management Discipline.
CSWIP 3.0 (3.1 Preferable).
Certified Lead Auditor with and IRCA approved training provider.

Skills:

Process Mapping.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Inc. 8D.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
Good data analysis skills, as well as solid auditing experience.
A good understanding of basic Welding/Coating/Engineering principles.
H&S and Environment systems awareness.
High attention to detail, along with a methodical and logical thinker.
Good report writing skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt (Black Belt Preferred).
Non-conformance management skills are essential.
