Statistics Manager

Salary: GBP32,100 - GBP43,300 (depending on experience)

Location: Cambridge

Full Time, Permanent

What it's about

The role of the Statistics Manager is to provide statistical data analyses and advice to the Research and Technical Standards team in OCR. The role will require the post holder to design and conduct quantitative research projects using data manipulation and programming skills, to undertake bespoke analyses. Such work can feed directly into policy discussions with the regulator, and other exam boards, and the grading of candidates.

What you'll be doing

Writing research proposals to agreed specifications, undertaking analyses and writing reports for clients (e.g. OCR, JCQ, OFQUAL) according to their agreed specifications. Meetings are then attended to discuss the reports with clients and advice and guidance provided on findings as necessary.

  • Providing data to specification at short notice for clients (e.g. OCR, JCQ, OFQUAL) to inform discussions at technical meetings with other boards and the regulators.
  • Advising on experimental design for analysing data and giving statistical advice and guidance to colleagues within OCR, incorporating appropriate robust statistical techniques (e.g. multilevel modelling and item response theory).
  • Advising and using statistical analyses to provide help with the evaluation of reformed specifications.
  • Be part of a grade modelling service to help set grade boundaries.
  • Designing and managing analyses of item level data to meet the needs of the client according to agreed schedules.

What we're looking for

We are looking for sophisticated statistical knowledge; knowledge of research design; good communication skills; attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines. Knowledge of the educational or assessment environment would be desirable, but training in this area will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a market leader and be rewarded with valuable learning opportunities, a competitive salary and benefits.
