BACKGROUND
Haven is a South-Yorkshire based charity supporting children and young people affected by domestic abuse. We are rare. The needs of children can be overlooked in Domestic Abuse situations, yet the impact on their lives can be significant, traumatic and long-lasting. Children who witness or are victims of Domestic Abuse have difficulties with 'attachment' and are more likely to truant, do less well in exams, get bullied, go to jail, and become victims or perpetrators of Domestic Abuse themselves. Our mission is stop this cycle of violence and to support children to become the best they can be.
We are a new charity - in existence in our current form for just 3 years - and although we are small, we have big ambitions. We are looking for an outstanding leader with the drive, energy and ambassadorial skills to consolidate our base, raise our profile and expand our horizons. The Director will play a crucial part in the ongoing development of the Charity and you will be encouraged to grow with us. The role and reward will evolve to reflect what we hope will be a growing, well established charity that becomes indispensable in South Yorkshire and beyond.
We can promise a great challenge, rewarding work and the support of enthusiastic and talented colleagues and trustees who will be on your side. If you want to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people and take a prime role in shaping and growing an ambitious, innovative organisation with strong roots, we would love to hear from you.

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND
Our History
Haven began life as a house; In 1975 it was a refuge for women and their children escaping domestic violence and abuse. But in recent years, changes to the way Sheffield City Council funded women's refuges meant that the 3 refuges in Sheffield had to merge into a single organisation to continue to receive statutory funding. However Haven had been particularly active and innovative in providing support to Children and Young People and it didn't want this focus to be lost, especially as there was virtually no provision in the county of this sort. And so in 2014, Haven handed over the house to the new merged refuge and transformed itself into a new service and outreach organisation delivering therapeutic support to children and young people wherever they need it.
In 2015 we agreed our new vision and mission:
Our vision is a world free from domestic abuse where children are safe and their voices are heard.
Our mission is to provide support and care in South Yorkshire for children, young people and their families affected by domestic abuse, to improve their health, safety and emotional well-being. We will do this through:
  • the design and delivery of services to those who need us
  • preventative and awareness education
  • campaigning and research
  • to ensure no life is damaged by domestic abuse.
