Controls & Automation Engineer

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Controls & Automation Engineer will apply standard engineering techniques to design, develop, and maintain instrumentation or controls systems, to provide detailed documentation both during and upon project completion to other engineering departments and for the end user.

You will be involved in all aspects of Controls engineering including, but not limited to PLC's & HMI's. To be required to provide detailed documentation both during and upon project completion to other engineering departments and for the end user, such as FDS's, FAT's, User Manuals. You will ensure that all necessary customer requirements are met in a timely and cost effective manner.

A proven track record in all aspects of automation control for automated machinery projects is essential.

Responsibilities of Controls & Automation Engineer

- Support continued improvement and Maintain Control Systems - including PLC's & HMI's
- Upgrading of Existing Equipment & Integration with new Automation / Controls
- Involvement in Design & Development of new Control Systems
- PLC Programming - Siemens & Rockwell
- Implementation of Control & Software Systems & Associated Equipment
- Development of Functional, Detailed and Software Design Specifications from User Requirement Specifications
- Carry out site surveys on customer sites, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing & on site
- commissioning
- Support the sales teams using the technical expertise to generate new business and the production department if required
- Build relationships with customers to identify their need, working to agreed timescales & tight deadlines
- Support and promote good teamwork within and outside of the department, and act in line with the company's policies and values
- Prepared to travel when required (National & International)

EXPERIENCE

- Software design & PLC software experience - Rockwell / Siemens
- Experience in motion control / servo control systems would be advantageous
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills to deal with the response time pressures that can arise due to
- the nature of this industry
- Ability to convert verbal, written, and other media-based information into project documentation
- Excellent computer skills, being proficient in Microsoft Office packages such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
- The ability to simultaneously organize and successfully execute multiple project responsibilities
- Ability to works as an individual or as part of a team
- Ideally you will be from a Control Systems Engineering discipline and will have worked in a packaging equipment or special purpose machinery industry engineering products such as rotary machines, process equipment and air, vacuum & mechanical conveyors.

EDUCATION

- HNC / HND qualification
