Editorial Assistant (Ref: F1R/EA)
F1000Research, a unique open science publishing platform from Faculty of 1000, requires an Editorial Assistant to work on the prestigious F1000 Faculty Reviews ( )
The role is based in central London and involves contacting internationally renowned biological and medical researchers and clinicians by email and by phone to commission new authors for the online publication. The role also involves proof-reading and copyediting editorial content associated with the review articles. The successful candidate will be a life sciences/biomedical graduate with a natural ability to communicate concepts clearly and enthusiastically. They should also be organised, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, show a high level of accuracy and demonstrate an ability to multi-task and effectively prioritise tasks. Prior editorial experience is not required for this role as full training will be provided.
Main Duties:
- Contact Section Heads to approve ideas and new faculty members as authors for the review service.
- Recruit senior scientists to author for the service by phone and email.
- Chase authors by phone and email to obtain their manuscripts in a timely manner.
- Manage the refereeing process of articles in a timely fashion.
- Manage referee reports, liaising with authors, referees, and internal staff where clarification is required.
- Respond to questions from authors and referees relating to the processing of articles.
- Prepare articles to specification for typesetting and editing.
- Copy edit and publish short recommendations for the F1000Prime website.
- Liaise closely with the rest of the team to ensure problems with manuscripts are kept to a minimum.

- Life sciences/biomedical graduate

- Good written and oral communication skills
- Strong English language skills
- Diplomacy
- Computer skills essential - especially Internet searching
- Pro-active, resourceful and a good team player
- Adaptable and willing to take on new and different responsibilities as they arise
- Ability to handle multiple projects
- Interest in science publishing
