About the role:The Imaging Team plays an important role in the validation of our antibody batches and generating marketing data for new products. We are looking to recruit an independent, highly motivated Principal Scientist to join our team in Cambridge (UK). This role is a fixed-term maternity cover role and combines laboratory and office-based work, with the possibility of supervisory responsibilities.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Contribute to projects and initiatives as required within the Imaging applications. Define suitable testing conditions, plan, conduct and analyse bespoke, complex experiments in immunocytochemistry (ICC-IF) and Flow Cytometry.
- Demonstrable experience of confocal microscopy, cell culture, cell treatments, experimental design and workload management are essential.
- Be considered a technical expert, to actively promote and implement process improvements and to mentor and teach colleagues.
- Communicate with our Cell Sciences team to ensure high quality of the cell cultures used in ICC-IF testing, optimize growth conditions for new cell lines and to improve standard processes.
- Actively seek to improve testing conditions for individual products to best demonstrate product performance.
- Help to establish and maintain high quality standards during experimental processes and record keeping. Abide by laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and keep accurate Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs).
- Help establish a safe and efficient working environment in the laboratory, ensure the safety of colleagues & visitors and comply with Health and Safety (H&S) policies.
- PhD in a life sciences field is essential and post-doctoral experience desirable.
- Experience in using antibody reagents and a strong scientific understanding of processes involved in their development.
- In-depth knowledge of cell biology, pathology, histology, fluorescent labels, flow cytometry and microscopy (bright field, confocal and high-throughput microscopy).
- Extensive experience in cell culture and knowledge of various cell lines.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, multitask and work to deadlines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Photoshop and ImageJ software.
- Be a team player; facilitate open and constructive communication within the Characterisation team and other teams within the company.
- Experience of working within the Life Science Industry.
- Experience in writing and reviewing SOPs and risk assessments.
- Ability to demonstrate evidence of managing projects.
- Experience in line management.
