The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for supporting the Warehouse Manager with managing the effective operation of the Warehouse, its financial and day to day running. Working with the Management Team of the Charity you will ensure that the Warehouse is developed to its full potential, that agreed business objectives and budgets are met and adhered to and safe working practices are observed by you, your staff and volunteers. Business targets will be set annually and communicated and reviewed via a balanced scorecard system.

Tasks & Responsibilities: Adherence with all policies and procedures of Sobell House Hospice Charity including

* Managing the day to day running of the Warehouse alongside or in the absence of the Warehouse Manager- opening and closing at agreed times, completing end of day till balance and banking and supervising the receipt and sorting of donations.

* Applying cash register procedures and be accountable for all monies in the warehouse.

* Carrying out Warehouse administration and maintaining good housekeeping standards.

* Acting as key holder within procedural guidelines.

* Ensuring the security of warehouse takings.

* Applying suitable display, merchandising and window dressing standards.

* To ensure that health and safety procedures are understood and implemented by all volunteers and staff.

* Applying Trading Standards Regulations in the Warehouse and ensure all warehouse staff and volunteers are aware of these.

* Carrying out accurate stock takes at required intervals

* Maintaining Pat Testing qualifications for staff and volunteers

* Managing New goods for sale in Warehouse

* Managing diary for goods collection/delivery

Management and supervision of Staff and volunteers including

* To work with the Warehouse Manager to effectively recruit, co-ordinate, train and supervise volunteers and to ensure all volunteers maintain a high standard of customer care and adequate cover for the warehouse at all times

* The effective supervision, coordination and training of volunteers to staff the warehouse.

* Ensuring volunteers are able to carry out their job safely and effectively

* Taking action to ensure the warehouse is adequately manned, setting and maintaining rotas

* Providing best circumstances for the personal security of volunteers and staff Ensuring that security procedures are understood and implemented by all volunteers

* Maintaining high standards of customer service

* Managing, updating and communicating new/changed personal details for all staff and volunteers and maintaining accurate record

Business Development and financial targets

Assisting Warehouse Manager with the following:

* Ensure financial targets are met

* To ensure the Warehouse is competing effectively with local competitors

* To control pricing of items for sale to ensure the highest possible resale value of donated stock

* To control stock density and rotation and carry out accurate stock taking of all new goods at required intervals

* To engage with local community and undertake as many opportunities as possible to raise brand awareness and fundraise within the local area.

* Sign up Gift Aid applicants

* To use new technology as required

Vehicle and Charity asset maintenance

* To ensure all warehouse equipment is kept in good working order

* To inform Trading Manager of necessary repairs and maintenance and to keep the property secure and in good working order

And To carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by the Trading Manager.

Qualifications/Training

Formal educational qualifications above and beyond basic GCSEs are not necessary if good experience is shown, but it is beneficial for applicants to have a business or retail management qualification.

Experience

Essential:

* Previous experience in a supervisory role, ideally with volunteers.

* Understanding of Health & Safety and Trading Standards

* Full clean driving license

Desirable:

* Managed a retail outlet

* Training in customer care

Personal Specification

Excellent communications skills are vital in this job, as are interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the merchandise the Warehouse offers is also essential. Attention to personal appearance and professionalism is important as managers are expected to look smart and presentable as they are representing the charity to the public.
