The Sanctuary: Wigan Support Workers – Nights

Reporting to: The Sanctuary Coordinator

Salary: £17, 351 per annum (pro rata for part time roles)

Working hours: 35 average hours per week (up to 40 on a shift rota basis)

Contract length: 12 months fixed term, continued subject to funding

Holidays: 25 days per annum pro rata (rising to 30 days pro rata per annum after 5 years’ service), plus Bank Holidays

Based at: Wigan & Leigh Sanctuary

Self Help  is a user led mental health charity that has developed considerable expertise in the field of primary care mental health.  The charity currently delivers a range of services including self help support groups, eTherapy services, counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The charity is funded by various NHS Trusts and works across the North West with the head office based in Hulme, Manchester.

 We are commissioned by Manchester, Wigan & Bolton CCG to deliver the Sanctuary service which is an overnight mental health crisis service.The Sanctuary is a primary care mental health crisis service providing support to people living with issues such as anxiety, low mood and depression - including those with suicidal thoughts and/or in extreme panic state.   The Sanctuary will ‘help people get through the night’ by providing 1-to-1 support, a safe and secure venue, and access to a calm room from which to weather the crisis and plan further support.

We are looking for  motivated and experienced individuals to support clients of The Sanctuary Wigan & Leigh service. The role will involve providing a welcoming, comfortable and safe experience for clients, delivering telephone and 1-1 support sessions, including relaxation and planning sessions, and working with peer volunteers to support and promote clients’ wellbeing.

The ideal candidate will have experience of mental health support work, in a paid or voluntary capacity. Self Help  positively welcomes applications from people with personal experience of mental health problems.
