The Role and Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Chemistry Group at Spirogen. As part of the group, you will work on the design, synthesis and characterisation of novel drug payload molecules and warheads, for antibody conjugation and biological evaluation. In addition, you will work in a multidisciplinary matrix environment and support research at the chemistry-biology interface to address a range of key challenges associated with therapeutic biologics. As part of your role, you will be expected to write reports, patents, MTAs and work plans. You will also source the equipment, chemicals and specific reagents required to do your work as well as assessing lab protocols and setting up standard operating procedures. You will be a hands-on member of the group who enjoys working at the bench on synthesis projects and synthesizing complex organic molecules.

Essential Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or other relevant scientific discipline.
  • Good hands on experience of synthetic research chemistry.
  • Experience of multi-step synthesis, analysis and purification of complex organic molecules (multi-gram to milligram scale).
  • Experience of modern synthetic chemistry techniques.
  • Experience of modern analytical chemistry techniques (NMR, LC-MS, HPLC etc.).
  • Good communication and document writing skills as well as IT skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Proven track record of success in the synthesis of complex compounds.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Experience of working with CRO/CMOs for chemical synthesis.
  • Understanding of basic biology, especially DNA Processes.
  • Basic understanding of intellectual property management.
