JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:                    Evening School Cleaner

Responsible to:          The Cleaning Supervisor.

Hours:                        36 Term-time weeks, 16 hours per week:

                                    Generally 4.00pm – 7.15pm, Monday – Thursday.  4.00pm – 7.00pm Friday, or 5.00pm – 8.15pm, Monday – Thursday, 5.00pm – 8.00pm Friday.

Hourly rate:              £7.92 per hour

Holidays:                    20 days + 2 statutory days plus 8 Bank Holidays paid holiday pro rata per annum.  As this is a Term-time post an element of pay equivalent to 13% of gross salary, in the first instance, is paid in lieu of holiday entitlement

Pension:                     Automatic enrolment into the KES Support staff Personal Pension Scheme with Employer’s Contribution of 6% of salary, to be matched by 2% Employee contribution.

Allocation of Duties

The Cleaning Supervisor will allocate duties to each cleaner and rearrange the duties as necessary from time to time.  Although in practice, cleaners will normally work in the same area each day; all cleaners will be required to help in any other area within the school, to cover for absences of other cleaners as directed by the Cleaning Supervisor.

  1. Cleaning

In general, will cover cleaning halls, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, foyers, corridors, stairs, changing rooms, toilets, showers, offices, storerooms etc, including furniture, lockers, equipment, light fittings, windows, window blinds, whiteboards etc.

Cleaning will include vacuum cleaning, dusting & polishing, deep cleaning, washing, shampooing, cleaning up in emergencies, such as accidents or illness, and the use of all cleaning equipment and materials as directed and in accordance with modern cleaning methods which will be changed and updated from time to time; emptying waste bins.

Toilets and washrooms:  cleaning and replenishing supplies as required, toilet rolls, soap, paper towels etc.

A Cleaning Specification is also provided for each area to be undertaken on a daily or weekly basis as described.

  1. Cleaning Equipment and Materials

Ensure that all cleaning materials and equipment are kept clean and well maintained, including emptying of vacuum cleaner bags, washing of pads, brushes, mops, dusters etc.

  1. Disposal of Rubbish

All disposable waste material should be put in a black refuse bag and taken daily to the disposal bins.

  1. Furniture and Fittings

Arrange furniture and curtains etc in orderly fashion and/or as directed before and after cleaning.

  1. Security

Ensure that windows and doors are fastened or locked as directed and lights switched off before leaving.  Lock all internal doors.

  1. Health and Safety

Cleaners to comply with all Health & Safety requirements including:

  • Signing in and out on the Time-sheets provided.
  • Safe use and storage of all cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Wearing protective clothing as and when required.
  • Seeking assistance and/or training if in any doubt as to the safe use of materials or equipment and/or cleaning procedures.

Cleaning can be helped considerably by good maintenance.  All Cleaners are therefore provided with notebooks to note down any items of damage, breakages, vandalism or other wear and tear which can then be dealt with by the maintenance staff.

  1. Holiday tasks

If appropriate, to undertake special holiday cleaning tasks as directed by the Cleaning Supervisor.

  1. Other Duties:

Any other cleaning related duties as may be required by the Cleaning Supervisor from time to time.

  1. General
  • All cleaners will be expected to help maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the premises. 
  • Exhibit an ability to work in a way that promotes safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
