Electronics Technician

Full Time:

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 6.

The salary range will be £24,565 - £29,301 per annum, exclusive of London Allowance.

This post is in the Department of Space and Climate Physics at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory. For administrative purposes, the Department is part of the UCL Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS). MSSL is located on its own campus in the Surrey Hills, surrounded by woodland. MSSL is the UK’s largest university space research group. Space science is a discipline that demands highly innovative technologies and MSSL has an international reputation for excellence in this area.

T his role is to assist more senior engineers, so they can delegate straightforward and less demanding tasks whilst enabling the post holder to learn about electronic engineering for space science instruments and advance their own career.

The post holder will work within project teams to assist with the design and test activities that go on in the course of the development of electronics sub-systems for the Laboratory’s space projects. As well as being necessary to support instrument development, this work is seen as a training environment for the more demanding tasks that can be undertaken when experience is gained. The post is funded for two years in the first instance.

The post holder will require A-level Electronics and a first degree in electronic engineering or equivalent subjects. They should also be familiar with electronics principles, schematic symbols and basic component properties. Good English written and oral communications skills are also required. A basic capability with MS Windows and Office applications is also a requirement.
