This role covers a number of concrete plants in the areas of Somerset, Gloucester and Bristol. The role holder will have circa 10 direct reports delivering circa 150km3 of concrete with associated revenue of circa GBP10m. Responsible for the Health & Safety of staff, contractors and visitors, Production and Operational performance in accordance with company procedures, Site and Plant management and maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and environmental responsibility and compliance with company, legal and industry requirements.

• To achieve agreed safety, cost, profit, quality and service objectives through the successful and effective management of the district operations team.

• To proactively identify and pursue opportunities to improve operational performance.

• Provide leadership in a style that both drives the business to achieve its objectives and creates the conditions in which the team are well motivated and high performing.

• Communicate to the team in a clear and effective manner, business expectations, including performance requirements and results.

• Develop the team, both individually and collectively, by agreeing Personal Action Plans and addressing these through delegation, coaching, mentoring and learning programmes.

Role responsibilities:

• Develop, in conjunction with commercial managers and area operations managers, annual profit plans and capital expenditure justifications

• Develop a local operations plan to achieve required safety, profit, quality and service objectives

• Develop and implement operational targets by individual plant in order to meet market, service and quality requirements

• Provide monthly operational cost and production forecast reflecting commercial needs

• Contribute to the area strategic plan and annual budget

• Assist and implement benchmarking to identify opportunities for performance improvement.

• Take responsibility for managing performance issues such as operational productivity, cost control, service levels and product quality

• Assist in the development of monthly operational reports

• Review, analyse and identify achievements, shortfalls and areas for improvement against plan on a regular basis and implement corrective actions

• Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.

Skills/experience/Qualifications

• Relevant degree and/or appropriate professional qualification and management qualification desirable
• Special functional knowledge and experience
• Knowledge of cement, aggregates, RMC and building products business
