You will have a great opportunity to maximise Impact from Science through NPL's alignment with Universities and our Postgraduate Institute (PGI). We are looking for 2 University Liaison Managers one based at our Teddington office and one based on-site with our Strategic Partner in Strathclyde.

The UKs National Physical Laboratory sits at the intersection between scientific discovery and real world application as one of the world's top three National Measurement Institutes. NPL University Liaison Managers bring a broad skill set, which is central to achieving our aim of continuing to innovate and deliver scientific excellence, often in collaboration with other organisations, in this case Universities and NPL's Postgraduate Institute. You will take the lead to support and increase funding mechanisms whilst deepening relationships between academia, commerce and NPL.

Essential Experience:

  • Good understanding of the research and funding ecosystem for Academia in the UK
  • Understanding and interest in science and research
  • Ideally a relevant degree / post graduate qualification
  • Willingness to travel as needed throughout the UK
  • Experience of working with multiple academic institutions
  • Strong demonstrable stakeholder management - building and maintaining
  • Ability to identify and deliver appropriate funding mechanisms for NPL/university programmes
  • Management of a complex mix of stakeholders, activities and interactions

Areas of Focus

Leadership: You will lead the development of our university collaboration strategy and the associated operations, showing clear progress towards achieving the longer term goals of the overall growth strategy.

Collaboration: You will own and manage key strategic university partnerships and collaborations, acting more broadly as a point of contact internally within the framework of NPL key account management practice. You will work closely with all stakeholders and the Head of Regions and Director of the PGI, to develop mutually beneficial opportunities for the NPL national hub's and our academic partners. In addition, you will work in partnership with other University Liaison Managers to provide a seamless strategic and operational approach.

Project/Operations Management: You will develop, maintain and implement operational plans for NPL's Postgraduate Institute jointly with the PGI Director. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating the delivery of key meetings and major events, in collaboration with a number of internal and external stakeholders. You will design, deliver and link in with existing university engagement programmes and events, ensuring appropriate attendance and outputs.

University Liaison Manager - Teddington

This role will have a 50/50 focus on developing and managing the PGI and the regional university liaison activities. This role would report jointly into the Head of Regions and the Director of the PGI.

University Liaison Manager - Strathclyde

This role will focus for 75% of time on regional activities and the 25% of time on the PGI operations. The role will report directly into the Head of Regions with a matrix management line to the Director of the PGI.

We are looking to our University Liaison Manager's to use their skills to maximise the impact of NPL relationships with universities to deliver impact and realise mutual benefit as well as ensuring the effective operation and development of the PGI.

We are a national laboratory, so you will be expected to travel across our hubs and throughout the UK University network.

Based in a unique, purpose-built research environment, we are located in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park, south-west London with a host of onsite facilities. These include a subsidised cr??che, restaurant and free parking.
