Green Recruitment Solutions are seeking to appoint a talented and professional Head of Energy, for this leading renewable energy, environmental and waste management consultancy; with additional specialisms in low carbon energy, marine planning and climate change. The ideal candidate must have determination, sector specific expertise- which ideally count towards 10 years of overall experience- of work directly with, for, or on behalf of, energy utilities, low carbon generators, major energy users, the regulator and/or central Government. Responsibilities:
• For this post, you will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of the Low Carbon Energy Team, winning new business, directing/overseeing projects and providing expert advice to a range of clients
• You will be responsible for expanding the client's services across the low carbon energy sector.
• You will be responsible for leading and developing a wide range of consultancy work with the client's public and private sector clientele; along with helping to build expertise within the Low Carbon Energy Team
• You should therefore already have an established network of contacts and clients in the sector, on which you can rely, to convert into new clients and new business; to form part of the pipeline of work this client is seeking to secure
• You must be able to demonstrate your experience and ability to manage key projects in the energy sector
• As you will be required to manage several existing, long-term, contracts for the client on behalf of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
• The work is likely to be varied across the sector and may include advising clients in relation to policy evaluation, strategy development, commercial advice, business case development, financial modelling, macro-economic modelling, and market and technical due diligence
• You would be expected to show familiarity with some aspect of all of these areas, and be able to demonstrate some specialism within them
• Ideally, you will be an established advisor to clients in respect of the emerging 'smart and flexible' energy system, and so can build upon existing client base with regard to electricity storage and smart metering
• You will be expected to be comfortable interacting with a range of clients and should be an effective communicator
• You should be able to exercise judgement and initiative and be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality in the work they do
• You will ideally have some experience of line-management and will be able to help develop the skills of existing and new staff to strengthen the Team
• You will also be a good motivator, who can enthuse and inspire the team to create new thinking and products to take to the market
Essential Requirements:
• Educated to degree level, possibly with additional post-graduate qualifications
• Ideally at least 10 years' experience of delivering complex projects in the energy sector and understanding of all related policy mechanisms
Ideally you will have experience in two, or preferably more, of the following areas:
• Electricity storage and demand-side management
• Smart grids and metering
• Large scale renewable electricity generation
• Industrial energy efficiency
• Substantial experience - which can count towards the 10 years' experience above - of work directly with, for, or on behalf of, energy utilities, low carbon generators, major energy users, the regulator and central Government
• Proven ability to sell consultancy services into these market areas
• Highly motivated, creative and critical thinker, and demonstrate a high standard of written work (particularly in the writing of formal/technical project reports), and oral communication skills
• Excellent client manager and proven manager of projects, who can effectively build long-term relationships with both new and existing clients
• Excellent verbal communicator with demonstrable experience at senior level
• Excellent business development skills with a proven track record of winning new contracts
• Ability to think creatively and independently to help develop new products and services
• Proven commercial acumen and the ability to grow business with existing clients
• A wide network of existing contacts, from whom you can easily access insights to help guide client work
• A methodical and rigorous approach with a high level of attention to detail
• Proven organisational skills, working in a calm, logical way to deliver tasks efficiently
• Excellent data analysis skills and the ability to see the bigger picture when advising clients
• Ability to both lead a team and work collaboratively in a team environment with multiple colleagues, peers, and external clients; and
• Excellent all-round IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office
• You are a confident and clear communicator
• You enjoy managing others; and
• You are enthusiastic, can inspire others to make a difference
• A personal interest in, and commitment to environmental issues is expected
