This post offers the successful candidate the ability to join our award winning team of Grounds staff to help maintain the 153 Ha estates on the Exeter campuses. It contains over 10,000 mature trees, including three arboretums and veteran trees, some of which are attributed to original specimens collected by world famous plant collectors.

The appointment is on a 5 over 7 day work pattern, with an average working week of 36.5 hours over the course of the year. Weekend working will be required on a rota basis. Flexible working to cover severe weather incidents will also be required. The post is available on a full time permanent basis.

The successful candidate will need to have a significant, demonstrable experience and a CS39 certificate for climbing and safe operation of a chainsaw in a tree. In addition they are required to hold a certificate demonstrating they can undertake felling of small/medium trees and tree pruning operations. They must also be able to demonstrate the ability to safely use a range of arboricultural and horticultural tools and powered equipment. They must be able to demonstrate they can work safely as part of a team and to have a good knowledge of a range of landscaping and planting techniques. You will need to prove you are a good communicator with a clear understanding of customer needs. Knowledge of traffic management and road closures will be required to fulfil the role. A clean current driving licence and PA1/PA6a spraying certificates would be an advantage but are not essential to fulfil the role.
