Biology Graduate Teaching Assistant - Birmingham Secondary - Starts Sept 2017
Are you a graduate with a degree in Biology or similar looking to work as a Teaching Assistant?
Do you have a strong academic record at A level and GCSE in science?
Are you looking to train as a science teacher in the future and would like to gain practical school based experience prior to starting?
Can you make the learning of science fun, interesting and interactive so as to engage the pupils you work with?

***Minimum 2:1 degree
***Good A level grades
***East Birmingham Secondary school
***5 Days a week during term time
***GBP55-60 per day
***Starts September
My client school, based in east Birmingham, is keen to recruit one, possibly two, science graduates to work on a full time permanent basis for the remainder of the academic year, starting in December, as a Teaching Assistant. The recruited graduates will work solely within the school's science and maths faculty but could be spread between Physics and Biology - dependent on your specialism and the demands of the school.
As a Teaching Assistant your role is to provide support to the school's pupils in science. The majority of the work will focus on those pupils in Key Stage 4, preparing for their GCSEs. On occasion this will be with the class as a whole but there will be some demand to take small groups aside, or out of the class, to provide more specialist help, be it to low achieving or gifted and talented pupils. As an Academic Mentor you will be given the chance to learn what it's like to be a teacher and how best you can support pupils in science.
Everyday as a Teaching Assistant is different, bringing new challenges and often new situations you won't have dealt with before. To be successful in this role you need to be highly organised, knowledgeable in your science subjects and most importantly flexible. Having patience and the ability to explain the same principle in different ways will also stand you in good stead.
This experience in a school will no doubt provide you with many of the tools and skills necessary as you embark on a career in teaching.
