The place - The role is based in Croydon. However there is a need for regular travel to other HMLR offices and suppliers' premises. Croydon is the fast-growing London borough, in Zone 5, where regeneration is transforming the town centre. The new Boxpark street food mall offering dozens of eating options is just minutes from our Trafalgar House office, which is also within easy walking distance of West Croydon and East Croydon rail stations. 

Procurement & Commercial Group - We are responsible for supporting budget holders in awarding, managing and ending their contracts and in supplier relationship management. We also provide commercial expertise and leadership at the appropriate stages of the procurement cycle. Our Group has established itself in a strategic role, providing timely advise to stakeholders that is aligned to our business strategy. We advise on the most appropriate procurement routes, mindful of Government approvals, public procurement law and the ongoing need to deliver value for money. The Procurement staff work out of our Nottingham, Plymouth and Croydon offices. 

The job - As a Category Manager you will support budget holders in awarding, managing and ending their contracts and in supplier relationship management. You will provide commercial expertise and leadership at the appropriate stages of the Procurement cycle, and give full commercial support (pre and post contract) to Print and Office Solutions categories of spend. This includes a range of outsourced services, critical to our core business operation.

•Experience of managing strategic suppliers and complex contracts, displaying a clear understanding of effective contract governance to achieve delivery and compliance. 

•Experience of developing procurement strategies for major contracts, running tenders and managing supplier relationships and the supply chain.

•Must be a strong communicator able to deliver results by proactive, positive and persuasive means, evidenced by working with a range of internal stakeholders and suppliers. 

Innovator/ Change Agent 
•Must be able to introduce or adapt to change in line with emerging business drivers. Willing to create change by challenging conventional delivery mechanisms and developing innovative approaches. 

Strategic thinker 
•Understand business needs and develop an appropriate procurement strategy that reflects agreed risk appetite, including experience of all the points below: 

•Using Business Intelligence to inform decision making 
•Using business models (e.g. PEST, SWOT, etc) 

CPD 
•Must be able to demonstrate continuous professional development and maintenance of procurement knowledge 

At shortlisting stage your application will be considered against the examples and evidence demonstrating the essential criteria for the role. These criteria, the desirable criteria and the competencies may all be tested at later stages during the selection process. 

The final selection stage will consist of an interview and a presentation. Details of the presentation will be provided if you are invited to interview.
