Our Client is a £10m plus turnover business headquartered in Teesside, with an excellent reputation in their core business of High Voltage (HV) Protection Engineering and systems integration of major capital projects in the Utilities sector.

Building on this success they have now set up an Engineering Services business based in Sheffield directed at electrical infrastructure projects. The target market here is substations and underground cable installations, in the Low Voltage (LV) sector, up to 132kV.

A key part of this process is the appointment of an Engineering Design Manager at the new Sheffield office location.

Candidates must demonstrate significant Design experience in managing complex Engineering projects both to plan and within budget. This could be in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electrical Protection and Control. Past evidence of success in both the Technical and Commercial aspects of the business is essential, including pricing and client liaison. An understanding of formal project planning systems would be a distinct advantage.

The ability to take a project from outline scope document through to detailed design implementation will be sought. A specific working knowledge of plant and systems utilised on electrical infrastructure projects in the target market is required. In addition to The successful candidate must have the credibility to be able to discuss detailed project specifications with professional Engineers, agree amendments to design and liaise with demanding clients throughout the project timeframe. Example industries would include those in the Utilities, Major Industrial and Renewable Energy sectors.

This position reports to the General Manager and is absolutely key to achieving the required early development and business growth.

Candidates should preferably be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Degree (or minimum HNC) in Electrical Engineering or a related subject; or other relevant Professional qualification
  • The confidence required to interact with Client Companies on a contractual basis, and respond positively
  • Experience of Project Management, planning and control
  • Relevant qualification in Health and Safety eg IOSH Managing Safely in Construction
  • An ability to work on own initiative, be proactive and self-motivated
  • IT literate with competent use of CAD systems eg AutoCAD

In addition, the job holder will be expected to undertake Design work as and when required.
