We are seeking a talented and experienced Associate Director/Principal Geotechnical Engineer looking to lead a team that is responsible for the delivery of a range of challenging and ultimately rewarding projects. We need a Birmingham based Associate Director/Principal geotechnical engineer to provide technical management and support to numerous clients, technical staff and projects in both the Birmingham office and more widely within the Europe market. Clients currently include HS2 (Phase 1 EDP JV), A-one+, Highways England, Thames Water, Environment Agency, and local authorities. Technical support to internal clients will also be required, i.e. the geomorphology, highways and bridges teams across the UK. There may also be opportunities to provide technical support to the HS2 on long term assignments. A large proportion of our work is undertaken within national frameworks and for contractors and involves design of earthworks, foundations and retaining structures. Many of our schemes are multi- disciplinary and will require liaison with project teams of varying complexity and size. The Birmingham geotechnical team is part of our 150 strong earth engineering group in the UK, which in turn forms part of a global technical network of around 500 tunnel and earth engineering colleagues. You will be passionate about ground engineering, have a desire to succeed and to be part of a winning team. You will work with our team of geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and geo-environmental specialists to ensure geotechnical designs are appropriate, meet standards of quality and are delivered to programme. The priorities of your role will include: • Responsibility for project delivery and undertaking the role of geotechnical lead on a range of infrastructure projects. • Leading and mentoring geotechnical design staff on the planning, investigation, design, construction and post construction monitoring of geotechnical aspects of projects • Using your knowledge and skills in working together with the team and other disciplines in providing an integrated service to clients • Seeking innovative solutions in achieving best value in delivering our services • Delivering feasibility studies, tenders designs, detailed designs and the production of contract documents and technical reports. • Managing your own geotechnical projects and liaising with project managers. • tracking of project programmes and delivery dates • undertaking technical reviews and checking • liaising with contractors and clients, both external and internal • providing technical input to bids The minimum qualifications for this position are: Minimum Qualifications: • Degree in civil engineering or engineering geology • MSc in soil mechanics / geotechnical engineering (or closely related subject) • Chartered Engineer (ICE or equivalent) with extensive post-graduate geotechnical experience (as required for RoGEP Geotechnical Specialist) The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge: • A sound academic knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering • Competent in geotechnical design of foundations, slopes, earthworks, retaining structures, particularly for highways and maritime structures • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with working knowledge of geotechnical software • A sound knowledge of design codes and standards, including EC7 • A thorough knowledge of HD22/08 -Managing Geotechnical Risk • Ability to work within commonly used forms of contract (NEC, ICE etc). Competence in the Engineer role in ground investigation under ICE • Strong planning & organising skills • Proven track record of the delivery of ground engineering aspects of infrastructure projects and an ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team • Motivated to deliver high quality and to programme • Experience of undertaking client facing roles and an ability to attract new clients into the business • Experience of project financial management and bidding to deliver continued workload • Strong communication skills with fluency in verbal and written English • Ability to produce quality reports and technical papers and to deliver presentat
