A growing, successful, and highly innovative company are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join their team on a temporary basis. The practical application of technical excellence lies at the heart of all that the company do and is supported by their industry-leading facilities, expertise and knowledge.
The Microbiology Analytical Services (MAS) Group performs examinations on a range of food products and food related samples for its clients. They also contain the microbiological media preparation and waste decontamination services which is what this position will mainly be involved in.
Main duties of a Lab Technician will be:
- Provide technical support for the activities of the MAS department including but not limited to:
o Routine sample preparation and analysis on accordance with the companies quality management system using a variety of methods
o Milling and related activities
- Basic maintenance and equipment checks
- Comply with all relevant policies procedures and instructions including Health and Safety
- General laboratory housekeeping duties
Central Preparation Unit (CPU)
- Prepare and sterilise media
- Decontaminate laboratory waste and discard to outside bins
- Sterilise and wash-up used glassware and equipment
- Make deliveries to and collect from laboratories
- Stock control
- Contribute to Microbiological testing of Media QC
- Microbiology Department Supplies Receipt
Analytical Services (MAS)
- Microbiological testing of samples when requested
Both Areas
- Maintain laboratory facilities and equipment as detailed in the Quality Manual including performing housekeeping duties in both CPU and MAS areas
- Follow procedures detailed in Business (quality) Manual
- Calibration Technician
- Record and keep accurate records of work done and all appropriate laboratory information and results using appropriate forms
What skills do I need to be a Lab Technician?
- GCSE/A levels including English, Math and Science subject and/or basic knowledge of microbiological techniques
- Ability to undertake routine analytical testing with minimal supervision
- Good organisational skills in managing own workload
- Good team player with the ability to work in a small team with minimal supervision
- Flexibility to work on a number of tasks and manage priorities
- Good written and verbal communication skills and good telephone manner
- A can do, friendly and enthusiastic attitude
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Skills gained in a similar role would be advantageous
- Having attention to detail and be motivated as tasks can be routine
- The ability to produce and maintain clear records and documentation is essential
- A driving licence is a must due to the location of the company
