999 Emergency Call Handler

Salary up to £21,000 including unsocial enhancement.

Job ref: 202-474-16

Location: Bradley Stoke, Bristol

Are you looking for a role that is exciting and rewarding?

Can you use your skills to communicate in an empathetic manner to help those in a medical emergency?

We need dynamic individuals to join our clinical hub who can work under pressure, sometimes in very stressful and emotional situations.

Our 999 call-takers receive emergency calls, prioritising patients to ensure the most appropriate help is arranged, and where necessary, give life-saving instructions. The role is varied, also dealing with requests from hospitals, GPs and other healthcare professionals, as well as enquiries from the general public.

Can you stay calm and professional in a pressurised environment, effectively receiving, and recording information accurately? We are a 24/7, 365 days' service, and the shift pattern covers these hours.

We need individuals who have a good standard of education, to include 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English), or equivalent qualifications, and good computer literacy. Some call-centre experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.

We will provide a full training programme along with ongoing support in the role. There are good progression opportunities within the clinical hub and the wider Trust for ambitious employees.

We will be holding Open Evenings for candidates, which will provide more information about the role, and to give the opportunity to ask questions to current members of staff.

The next Open Evenings will be taking place in Bradley Stoke on:

Wednesday 2 August

Wednesday 9 August

If shortlisted at application stage, you will be invited to attend an interview and assessment.

If successful, you will be offered a place on one of our upcoming training courses. We are recruiting to the following course dates:

Monday 28 August 2017

Monday 2 October 2017

Full salary will be paid on completion of probationary period.

During this period (3-6 months, subject to reviews) you will receive a reduced salary of £16,968 per annum pro-rata. Upon successful completion of the training course and commencement in post, you will receive an unsocial enhancement to your basic pay, of up to 25%.

Application forms, job descriptions and person specifications are available by clicking the apply button.

South Western Ambulance Service is working towards equal opportunities. Due to under representation within the Trust, we would particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic group individuals, women and those with a disability.
