Job Title: BAU Network Engineer - 3rd Line Support

LOCATION Edinburgh/London

Key Responsibilities:

The objectives of this role is to be a 3rd level Technical Data implementer who provides leadership, communication and will assess and implement technical changes within the BAU project pool for RBS network services. The Implementation Technical Specialist will perform a pivotal role in providing a specialist implementation function across programme, project, operations and the customer ensuring services are delivered into service operations so that they can be managed in life to the highest support standards.

The role will predominantly be based at a RBS office, however due to the nature of the role, travel and work outside of office hours will be expected.

Key Skills / Knowledge:

Role:

• To configure infrastructure and own project requests from inception to implementation and handover to the operations Teams.

• Attend conference calls regarding BAU work requests directly with the Customer and other Vendors and to provide technical support and technical assistance and guidance for the work request.

• Provide technical assessments of design documents for proposed solutions, in particular network improvements, to ensure the design is fit for purpose and meets RBS standards.

• To support and own complex BAU project requests for implementation within the RBS infrastructure involving Data, network / configuration(including DNS, DHCP)

• Sound analytical and diagnostics skills

• Input to creation of test plans and to unit test infrastructure

• Develop accept into service documentation

• Support operational acceptance tests and user acceptance tests

• Conduct stress, integration and quality tests

• Support disposal and de-commissioning of equipment

• Produce or update network diagrams and documentation

• Provide status updates and reports

• Create a bill of materials (BOM) for the RBS Project Manager to order required hardware/software.

• Carry out technical assessment of changes

- Carry out impact analysis and risk assessment

- Explain and present change as required at CAB

• To develop strong relationships with senior technical specialists within Project Teams

• To develop strong partner relations with technology partners and suppliers

• Mentoring Team members

Core Skills

• Accredited to recognised industry standards e.g. CCIE in Switching & Routing

• Experience in Banking environment (applications such as Traders / Multicast)

• Technical implementation skills including configuring infrastructure, managing changes through the RBS change processes and testing

• Expert knowledge and practical experience of Cisco architecture and monitoring methodologies and systems

• Excellent knowledge and practical experience of general networking technologies

Good networking background Cisco hardware - 6500, 4500, 3900, 3800, 3750s,2960, 2911, 1911 - Bonus (Nexus 7k, 5k, 2k) Understanding of routing protocols - OSPF and BGP Understanding of LAN switching - vlans, spanning tree, vtp WIFI
