Engineering Team Leader - Concession Management & Defect Investigation

A market leading FTSE 100 Defence organisation is currently recruiting for an Engineering Team Leader - Concession Management & Defect Investigation to take on a permanent position ASAP. The main purpose of the role is to manage, co-ordinate and support the CM&DI Team in undertaking activities necessary to deliver the CM&DI Team Outputs and maintain effective and efficient CM&DI processes.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows -

Technical Support

  • Act as the main point of contact for all concession and defect processes.
  • Provide technical knowledge and support to other areas of Engineering Services related to activities of the CM&DI Team.
  • Chair progress, technical and contractual meetings with customers, suppliers and internal members of the Engineering Services.

Project Management

  • Utilise Project Management best practice in supporting delivery of CM&DI Outputs as defined by the Maritime Support Delivery Framework (MSDF) Annual Plan.
  • Manage subcontractors to ensure that outputs are delivered to the required quality, programme and cost.
  • Promote the development of good working relationships and communications with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular and adequate communication with the Process Team Manager to report Scheduled and Continuous task progress, performance, Risks and Issues.
  • Ensure the Management Information System is updated for all CM&DI tasks
  • Lead development and delivery of CM&DI MSDF Annual Plan Bid response.

Resource Management

  • Create, issue and maintain of Terms of Reference for staff under their control.
  • Set SMART objectives and conduct appraisals of subordinate staff, in accordance with employee parent company requirements and process.
  • Assess and utilise the skills and experience of individual staff to enable tasks to be placed at the appropriate level.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse customer feed-back to continually improve the performance of the team.
  • Maintain the team's procedures and processes to ensure they remain current and identify where processes and update strategy may be improved and implement agreed changes.
  • Responsible for CM&DI Team management tools and working documentation, directing reviews as necessary to ensure they remain current and identify where processes may be improved.

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience -

  • Incorporated Engineer with an Honours Degree in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) based discipline; (or)
  • Qualification to NVQ4 /HND / BTEC Level 5 in a relevant STEM discipline augmented by significant experience in a relevant STEM field.
  • Engineering experience within a Maritime Support Engineering environment.
  • Experience of successfully managing teams is desirable. Preferably supported via formal recognised qualifications such as certification from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).
  • Project Management skills and experience, preferably supported via formal qualification with the Association of Project Managers (APM).
  • Be proficient in the use of appropriate Project Management & IT tools (especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, and MS Visio).
  • Suitable for SC Clearance (essential)
