Project Leader (Power)

Would you like to take a leading role on cutting-edge defence projects for the UK's most advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Project Leader at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Project leader, you will be leading an overseeing a team of electrical engineers, working on state-of-the-art submarine power systems.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a unique and complex engineering environment, working with a large number of internal and external stakeholders to a challenging set of customer requirements.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Leader will involve:

Leading and overseeing a team of engineers

Producing system designs and documentation, including design descriptions, schematic diagrams and safety justifications

Undertaking equipment specification and selection, and collating equipment attributes to support build model and bill of material compilation

Supporting system design reviews and model reviews

Collating equipment qualification evidence

Supporting the production of test forms

Preparing test plans, attending equipment factory acceptance tests and reviewing test evidence and reports

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

BEng or equivalent qualification and experience

Experience of power design or manufacture- Preferably within submarine, marine, nuclear of defence industry

High standard of technical report writing skills
Proven track record of system or equipment design
In depth understanding of at least one and general understanding all of the following areas: - Power system modelling, generators, switchgear, protection, power electronics, rotating machine design
Desirable:

CEng, MIET (or be able to work towards satisfying requirements for CEng)
ILM 2 / 3, PRINCE 2 or equivalent
Demonstrate management and leadership of engineering teams
Knowledge and experience in defence standards

You will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills to lead and guide a team, as well as interfacing with stakeholders and the customer. You will be an analytic and diplomatic worker, with good problem solving skills, able to manage workloads to strict timeframes.

Maritime - Submarines

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
