Business Area - Financial Management

Role: Financial Analyst

Location: Based at Ashurst's Glasgow office. There will be a requirement for some travel to the firm's London office

Hours of work - 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, working 8.5 hours a day including an hour for lunch, between the hours of 09:00 - 17:30 However, you will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties.

Department/ Role Overview: Support senior management and the Commercial finance team in developing the firm's strategy by performing financial analysis to deliver relevant and insightful management information, together with assisting in business planning and development of the firm's reporting framework. In particular, working to enable the team to harness the best insights and develop reporting from the firm's new global practice management system.

Main responsibilities:

Perform financial review and analysis of operating units across the firm, liaising with business stakeholders as appropriate
Complete ad hoc analysis and reporting in response to requests for information from partners and senior management
Assist in the design of financial reports and work closely with the Reporting development/Analytics team to build and deliver these reports
Assist in the development of the firm's accounting, budgeting and forecasting processes and contribute to Financial Management department projects
Proactively interrogate the firm's data to perform pertinent analysis, supporting and influencing the actions of business decision makers
Monitor external economic and industry trends and assess in the context of the firm's performance and business information needs
Build effective cross-team/department relationships to improve communication and understanding of information needs across the business
Assist in the education of users of financial information

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requires and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

Proven experience and success in a similar role, preferably within a professional services organisation
Ability to demonstrate sound understanding of the professional services business model
Advanced analytical skills
Relevant accounting qualification an advantage but not essential
Accounting experience/background advantageous
Computer literate with a strong understanding of financial and management information systems
Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
Advanced Microsoft Excel
Excellent delivery skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business
Strong client relationship skills
Experience of business intelligence tools (e.g. Cognos/TM1) and report development/testing
