Job Description:

Graduates, interns, placements and apprentices are key to the overall success of CH2M. We invest in initial career experience of graduates, interns and apprentices which in turns serves as the foundation to building our pipeline of future leaders. Civil engineering design technicians will be on a Level 3 Apprenticeship which will run over a two to three year period during which you will undertake a supervised programme of training and college day release which leads to Technician Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). There is the opportunity to go onto further study to enable you to be qualified to degree level and achieve the Chartered Engineer status. You will work towards the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Construction and the Built Environment Advanced Apprenticeship including Functional Skills Level 2/3 in English and Maths. You will be required to attend college one day a week and report to the London office for the remaining four days a week. This may change depending on the nature of the training provision made with the college/ training provider. You will be advised of this on joining. Civil engineering design technicians (whilst at the office) provide support to civil engineers who design, build and manage construction projects. These projects could be in several different sectors including: highways, bridges, ports & maritime, water etc. A technician's work could involve: * Production of CAD drawings, and developing design skills * Preparation of simple calculations to support design development * Supporting the administration & delivery of projects * Ensuring design outputs meet the required standards * Meeting agreed deadlines * Working as an integral member of a design delivery team * Contributing to providing solutions to challenging problems. * Working both in an office environment and on site The minimum qualifications for this position are: * Minimum 5 passes at GCSE with at preferred Grade 'B' or higher in Mathematics, preferred Grade 'C' or higher in English and a preferred Grade 'B' or higher in a Science/ Technology related subject (i.e. Physics/ Chemistry/ ICT etc. or equivalent. * You may not be eligible to apply for an apprenticeship if you already have a higher level of qualification (i.e. HNC/HND/B.Eng. etc.) in the related field and/or if you have not been living in the UK for at least 3 years. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience: * Good communications, numeracy and IT skills are all important * Strong problem solving, attention to detail and a desire to come up with practical solutions * Competent at Maths and Physics * Interested in using computers for design work, calculations, and testing designs * Ability to produce neat and accurate technical drawings * Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize projects * Work well with other people in a team * Ability to organize the work of others * Present information in speech, drawings and reports Work permits and visas will be handled on a case-by-case basis and dependent on business need.
