Role Purpose

The job holder will be required to underwriter both new and existing customer mortgage applications. Surety of decision, satisfactory credit quality in exercising your lending mandate and adhering to stringent regulatory, audit and legal requirements are of paramount importance. The role requires the job holder to be able to efficiently and effectively manage a case load.

Key Responsibilities

Lending

Responsible for assessing, approving, rejecting or repositioning mortgage applications where required within personal mandate.

Able to demonstrate a high level of surety to customers showing vigilance when assessing applications to ensure conflicting or suspicious information does not represent a potential fraudulent application.

Show a high level of attention to detail in order to provide robust lending decisions through logical application of credit policy.

Regulatory & Operational Risk Controls

Ensure that all Regulatory, Compliance and Audit requirements are performed to a satisfactory level and knowledge is maintained and demonstrated. Key areas include credit policy, lending criteria, anti-money laundering, data protection, conduct risk and as well as various internal policies and procedures.

Service

To serve our customers and partners by delivering a consistent high level of service through adherence to SLA by proactively using case messaging and the telephone to manage your case pipeline to avoid delays in the decision making and offer production timescales.

Planning

Manage your own day to day activities to ensure that all tasks are prioritised and completed in a timely fashion.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience ofunderwriting with a track record of using a residential and/or Buy-to-Let lending mandate an expert knowledge of lending criteria and credit issues
  • Demonstrate sound decision making and problem solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when assessing and interpreting documentation
  • Excellent customer service and telephone skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management
