ROLE PURPOSE
- To ensure satisfactory delivery of rail vehicle engineering tasks within schedule, budget and scope.
- To ensure quality of the engineering delivery by application of relevant project management and engineering processes and tools.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES (Please list in order of priority)
- To lead all aspects of design, implementation, testing and commissioning required to deliver the engineering project so as to satisfy customer requirements while adhering to project budgets and schedules
- To ensure that all technical requirements and demands by the customer are covered and fulfilled by the defined Engineering scope
- To ensure that the product complies with all contractual and legal requirements, particularly those that relate to certification.
- Represent the Engineering department in relation to the customer's technical departments and partner(s), supported by functional representatives as required. Accountable within the Project Core team for the engineering activity and reporting its performance and progress
- Responsible for management of all communication in technical matters with the Customer
- Responsible for monitoring the progress of work packages and addressing any issues with such work packages with Line Management and the day-to-day delegation of special tasks to the Engineering Core Team members in order to optimize the total project.
- Monitor, control and report monthly all product related financial aspects of the project consistent with the contract requirements and established project management procedures to attain established goals. Utilize clear measures and metrics (KPIs) to monitor and understand the status of critical tasks and objectives
- Timely identification of relevant issues that may impact the project to the core team and conversely feeding back to the Engineering team, then to jointly identify the resultant action plans to mitigate the issue
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE)
Experience
- Work experience in Engineering or similar field of work
Knowledge
- Experience of system/vehicle design engineering, testing and commissioning, international working and dealing with sub-suppliers
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- Project Leadership experience
- Leading of significant engineering design projects
