The Lifelong Learning Service is seeking to recruit outstanding tutors in the following areas: sessional tutors:
- Sessional Family Learning tutors
- Sessional maths and English tutors
The Service maintains a register of adult Learning tutors. Applications are invited from qualified and experienced tutors (Ofsted graded outstanding or good tutor preferred) who want to join the register.
Family Learning Sessional Tutors
We are seeking to recruit tutors who are qualified to teach in one or more of the following curriculum areas:
- Early Years
- Primary or Adult Literacy
- Primary or Adult Maths
As a sessional tutor you will teach adults, sometimes involving children, in schools, children's centres and community settings.
A sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Primary curriculum is required as well as a sound knowledge of the adult curricula. Applicants must have a flexible and creative approach to their work with families. Experience of partnership working promoting parental involvement in children's learning and development would be desirable.
Most of the community based Family Learning courses are engagement and first steps programmes with some English and maths qualification courses at Entry 3, level 1 & 2.
Family Learning programmes aim to:
- Improve the literacy, language and numeracy skills of parents
- Improve parents' ability to help their children learn
- Improve children's acquisition of literacy, language and numeracy
Family Learning programmes are specifically designed to enable adults with below level 2 skills to engage with learning and to progress to further learning and qualifications.
Applicants should be teacher trained and have specialist English and/or Maths qualifications at Level 5, or above.
Functional Skills English and Maths, GCSE English and Maths
We are seeking to recruit tutors who are qualified to teach in one or more of the following curriculum areas:
- Functional Skills English including at Entry/Pre Entry Level
- Functional Skills Maths including at Entry/Pre Entry Level
- GCSE English
- GCSE Maths
As a sessional tutor you will teach adults in community settings. Many of these adults will have struggled to achieve at school, may have no qualifications and require an individual approach to developing their skills from their current level.
A sound knowledge of the Functional skills and /or the GCSE curriculum is required.
Applicants must have a flexible and creative approach to their working with adults. Experience of working in community or post 16 settings would be desirable. An ability to link the curriculum to particular vocational subjects would be desirable as some learners may be also developing their vocational and employability skills.
Applicants should be teacher trained and have specialist English and/or Maths qualifications at Level 5, or above.
ESOL Sessional Tutors
We are seeking to recruit tutors who are qualified to teach in the following curriculum area:
- ESOL including at Entry/Pre Entry Level 1 up to Level 2
As a sessional tutor you willteach adults in community settings. Many of these adults will have poor skills, may not have attended school in their own countries, may have no qualifications and require an individual approach to developing their skills from their current level. ESOL is delivered to a variety of different groups and minorities who have wide variety of differing needs. Some learners are mandated from the Job Centre and will require skills relating to work.
A sound knowledge of the skills for Life /ESOL curriculum is required as is a knowledge and Applicants must have a flexible and creative approach to their working with adults. Experience of working in community or post 16 settings would be desirable. An ability to link the curriculum to particular vocational subjects would be desirable as some learners may be also developing their vocational and employability skills.
Applicants should have a teaching qualification and a specialist ESOL qualification at Level 5, or above.
Digital Tutors
We are seeking to recruit tutors who are qualified to teach in the following curriculum area:
- Digital/qualification (C&G IT functional skills quals)
- ICT/non qualification
As a sessional tutor you will teach adults in community settings. Many of these adults will have struggled to achieve at school, may have no qualifications and require an individual approach to developing their skills from their current level.
A sound knowledge of the digital curriculum is required. We are particularly looking for applicants that have creative digital skills (digital media (photography/video), new technologies, app creation, coding, 3D printing and robotics). Applicants must have a flexible and creative approach to their working with and inspiring adults.
Experience of working in community or post 16 settings would be desirable. An ability to link the curriculum to particular vocational subjects would be desirable as some learners may be also developing their vocational and employability skills.
Applicants should have a teaching qualification.
