Front End Developer

A starting salary of up to point 3 (GBP32,900) may be considered where the essential skills, knowledge and experience are demonstrated.

This is an exciting time to join the Welsh Government as we modernise our online presence and closely follow the successful model used by the Government Digital Service.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Corporate Digital Team to ensure that the Welsh Government makes best use of the capability of its websites. The post will involve being part of an agile delivery team, producing professional, standards compliant code, for websites, with due consideration of customer research and user journey.

Key tasks include:

  • Development of HTML and CSS (SASS) modular architecture for usable, accessible, web standards compliant websites.
  • Developing within a Drupal 7/8 environment using Twig template language.
  • Use version control and tools such as GIT, Drush and Jenkins.
  • Development of complex interactive components using languages, libraries, and techniques including JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX.
  • Development of mobile specific and responsive templates.
  • Working in a modern agile environment using JIRA and Confluence.
  • Provide accurate estimates and manage multiple tasks with many dependencies.
  • Provide recommendations for improving existing processes and bringing in new technologies.
