About the role: The reception/facilities assistant apprentice will help the Facilities/H&S Team achieve better internal customer satisfaction within the Abcam headquarters building. A Level 3 advanced apprenticeship in which you will work in our business 4 days a week with the 5th day focused on your academic learning delivered by the CRC who are experts at training Facilities management apprentices. The duration is 24 months and on successful completion of your apprenticeship we expect you to have gained the skills, confidence and knowledge to join the team on a permanent basis. About the Facilities/H&S team at Abcam: The Facilities/ H&S team has grown from small beginnings into a flexible busy and competent team. We currently maintain three buildings on the Cambridge Science Park; providing a safe working environment, maintaining the buildings and equipment and operating internal services which enables our employees to support our customers to Discover More. Key areas of responsibility:
  • Supporting the main reception duties such as sorting post, answering reception calls and fielding them through to the company and placing orders
  • Visitor management, security requirements such as issuing of ID cards
  • Providing administrative support to the facilities team
  • Helping to organise and run wellbeing events
  • Helping to allocate and prioritise daily workloads
  • Acting as the focal point for 'Facilities Help' requests and ensuring they are processed in the most effective way
What we are looking for: We are looking for a team player that is proactive and eager to learn. Someone with the potential to grow facilities management skills and that is willing to progress with Abcam on our journey from the Science Park to our new premises at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in 2019. Requirements and Experience:
  • Confident, positive & welcoming and mindful that for many visitors, they will be the first face of Abcam
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels confidently and professionally
  • PC literate - competent user of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Eligibility would be 5 GCSE grade C and above (include English. Maths and Sciences)
  • Organised and methodical
  • Determined & sees things through to completion
