SUMMARY OF ROLE

Client is a national group of accountants and business advisers. We are seeking a dynamic payroll manager to take ownership of a small but quickly growing payroll department. You will be expected to deal with the initial migration of fees from one business to another and you will need to build a small team to help support and service that process. Payroll fees are predominately a mix of owner managed businesses and recruitment agencies.

There are tried and trusted service propositions in place and an existing, successful framework from which you can crib. Our cloud-based services are attracting many new clients each month and your challenge will involve you identifying and implementing alternative systems and software, as well as building a team to support projected growth targets

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Managerial
Manage and maintain high levels of quality and service, ensuring prompt and accurate processing, payment, reporting and record keeping;
Maintain payroll information by designing systems; directing the collection, calculation and entering of data;
Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures to continue to offer best practice operations;
Maintain employee confidence;
Maintain professional and technical knowledge;
Maintain payroll staff by recruiting, selecting and training the successful applicants;

Practical
Process client payrolls;
Ensure correct Tax/NI rates and relevant certificates are in place for each employee, including certificates of age exception (CF4140 or CF384), certificates of election (CA4139 or CF383) and NI deferment certificates (CA2700);
Complete and submit all PAYE & NIC;
Calculation of employee and employer pension contributions. Maintain detailed records and deal with any administration required by the pension provider;
Process automatic transfer of Salaries, PAYE, Pensions by BACS;
Maintain employee records in payroll files and on Excel;
Deal with client queries;
Deal with all HM Revenue & Customs enquiries;
Production, reconciliation and submission of end of year forms, meeting the Revenue deadlines;
Communicate with directors, managers and staff at all times;
Keep up to date with legislation changes;

SKILLS REQUIRED
An ability to work quickly and accurately;
An eye for detail;
An ability to work to deadlines;
An ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism;
Good computer skills (especially with databases and financial software);
An ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English;
Must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential;
Prior use of Star Professional Payroll, Carvel or Tempaid would be an advantage;

SCOPE OF POSITION
Work Pattern: 8.30 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Ensuring that all responsibilities are met in accordance with company procedures and the Staff Handbook
Understanding the need for confidentiality when dealing with both internal and external information
Flexibility to work outside or in excess of standard hours when necessary to achieve objectives required
Sound knowledge of the company’s service offering specific to role
