More about the Press Officer role:

In this role you will have the opportunity to bring the story of the Saga brand to life and help change its perception with journalists, consumers and other key influencers.  You will help to manage issues to protect the brand reputation.  Reporting to the senior communications manager, this role is essential to developing and delivering engaging content about the Saga brand and products. 

Key responsibilities as our Press Officer:

- Contribute to the overall PR plan for the business

- Execute delivery against the PR plan through all means available

- Respond to media enquiries in a timely and comprehensive fashion

- Maintain PR management information system and identify process improvements

- Build relationships with product, marketing and other teams across the group

- Handle responses to customer complaints raised by the media

- Create and maintain relationships with key journalists

- Prepare background briefs in relation to media interviews

- Obtain case studies for use in the media

- Ensure PR presence on the Saga website

- To think and act creatively when considering new opportunities

- To travel for pro/re active promotion/protection of the brand as required

Experience and skills required of our Press Officer:

- Degree calibre

- Excellent communicator – both written and verbal

- Good ‘people’ skills with an ability to negotiate and influence

- Thoroughness and problem solving skills

- Ability to think on your feet whilst talking to journalists.

- Creativity and imagination

- Excellent time management skills able to prioritise actions and work on more than one project at a time with minimum supervision

- Ability to identify and drive process improvements and reduce cost

- A team player able to escalate issues as appropriate

- A passion for news and creating news

- Proven writing skills - grammar and an eye for detail

- Knowledge and understanding of PR practice and how this fits into the achievement of business objectives
