Job Purpose:

Assist with the creation and successful implementation of a diverse events programme including daytime, evening, bars-related and non-alcoholic. Contribute to the effective promotion of these events and other SU commercial activities.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research into what events/activities Aston students want the SU to provide, and communicate findings to relevant SU Managers.
  2. Formulate ideas for a range of events, to include bars-related, non-alcoholic, daytime, evening, on-campus, off-campus, large events and small.
  3. Work with colleagues from around the SU to plan event logistics. This will include Marketing, Bars, Tech Crew, Security, and Cleaners.
  4. Work with the Student Activities department to help SU clubs and societies organise successful events.
  5. Liaise with a variety of external partners and suppliers in order to arrange off-campus events for Aston students, either at bars/clubs or daytrips/excursions.
  6. Support the management of larger scale Union events, such as AU Ball, Graduation Ball and the Fresher’s Programme.
  7. Sell SU rooms to external companies and/or individuals looking for space to hire for events or activities.
  8. Co-ordinate SU aspects of any University-led events or activities (e.g. Careers Fairs, Open Days) taking place in the SU building.
  9. Work closely with the Digital Media & Design Executive to assist with the creation of promotional artwork for events and activities.
  10. Work closely with the Marketing Assistant to arrange dissemination of promotional material via the SU social media channels.
  11. Assist with the creation and dissemination of promotions for other SU commercial services, including Bar, the Shop and the Copy Shop.
  12. Co-ordinate all aspects of events to ensure they are run smoothly. This may include liaison with Tech Crew, Bars Management, University staff, Porters and Security, as well as any external suppliers and/or partners.
  13. Post-event follow-up to assess success and establish any lessons to be learnt.
  14. Observe all Union and University Policies
  15. Carry out other reasonable duties as requested.
