Our client is a large, and growing, specialist land-based College, with centres throughout Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Tees Valley.

There has been a significant increase in Mental Health issues amongst young people over the last couple of years. Many colleges now recognise that specialist knowledge is required for those students as the issues are often complex and time-consuming to assess and support, whether that is managed in-house or referral to external agencies is necessary.

The purpose of this role is to support the College in meeting the needs of students with mental health problems, by facilitating and co-ordinating access to appropriate support.

The Student Wellbeing Coordinator will ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent, and will have relevant qualifications and experience of working with adults and / or young people with mental health difficulties. Experience of working within a further or higher education setting is desirable and knowledge of relevant legislation relating to mental health and disability is essential. The main areas of responsibility of the role are as follows:

  • To address the mental well-being needs of students, co-ordinate provision of appropriate in-college support, and referral on to specialist external agencies, where necessary
  • To manage and deliver provision of outstanding counselling / mental health support to Askham Bryan College students.
  • To provide information, advice and support on student mental health to College staff.
  • To act as a Designated Safeguarding Officer at your base campus.
