Brighton & Hove City Council is recruiting to a number of IT and digital roles. Brighton & Hove is a vibrant, digitally innovative and connected city, at the heart of its city region and at the centre of a number of local and regional initiatives with public, private and 3rd sector partners, offering opportunities to engage with a variety of stakeholders and partners and really make a difference to people who live and work here. The Council is well into a multi-year programme of organisational modernisation, including renewal of core IT platforms and infrastructure, digital innovation and many business change programmes and projects in which IT is a key partner. We are also establishing close ties with East Sussex County Council and Surrey County Council through the Orbis partnership, which provides professional and technical support services for its partner organisations. This is an exciting time to join our team. We are an ambitious and forward looking IT department with skills in a range of enterprise technologies and digital delivery practices. Working in a fast paced environment, in the heart of the City and close to the seafront, these roles offer great opportunity. This is an opportunity to join the digital team, a busy and fast-moving team engaged in the development of customer-focused solutions across a wide variety of platforms and technologies, using Agile development methodologies. We join up data and systems using APIs, integrations, a wide variety of third-party products, plus legacy systems, engaging in all aspects of the development cycle from analysis, configuration, coding, testing and support of the systems we deliver to both the public and users within the organisation. The person we are looking for will be creative and focused, with good communication skills and an understanding of the requirements of our business, but who also possesses the requisite analytical and development skills. You will act as a subject matter expert in an area of web development (eg, front end design; maintaining a user-focused design ethos; accessibility (conforming with W3C standards); integration; API management; use of web standards to ensure integrity of our web services) leading and promoting use of standards in this area. We need someone who can contribute to the operational management of the team, working with business customers to prioritise our agile backlog and deliver to the team SLAs. Previous experience of some of the products we currently use will be an advantage. These include Drupal, Achieve, Mendix and Jira. However, because the range of technologies we use continues to change and expand, rather than expertise in specific platforms, it is more important that you can demonstrate a general creativity and flair in building systems from a diverse range of components, and are keen and able to exploit this exciting opportunity for involvement in all aspects of the delivery of on-line, digital systems. If you feel you are a good fit for one or more of the roles we are advertising, we want to hear from you. We do not accept CVs so please submit an application for each role you wish to be considered for. Please read the application pack carefully and ensure that your response addresses each point in the Person Specification, with examples by clicking the APPLY button. As part of Brighton & Hove City Council's ongoing commitment to redeployment, please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any stage of the recruitment process, without prior notice if a suitable redeployee (internal employee at risk of redundancy) is identified. Closing Date:01/08/2017
