JOB TITLE: Business Analyst

REPORTS TO: Various, as assigned

FUNCTION: Technology

LOCATION: Crawley (Majority) & London

CLOSING: 2nd August

SALARY: GBP45,000 - GBP55,000 Depending on experience

The Business Analyst plays a leading role in formulating, directing and supporting delivery of business change initiatives undertaken by the Technology Department of UK Power Networks on behalf of the various business Directorates that form the organisation. They work in partnership with other Technology colleagues and business stakeholders, deploying business analysis skill and broad business knowledge to create solutions that deliver business benefit, against the backdrop of a robust business case and appropriate level of risk.

They, along with the Project Managers, are instrumental in shaping the structure of the business change and have responsibility for managing the Business Analysis work stream. They remain engaged throughout development and implementation to manage requirements change, validate the solution and prepare the business for implementation.

The business analyst is a member of the portfolio community, assigned from a resource pool to work on one or a multitude of projects. They along with others in the resource pool will be involved in developing the resource pool's capability, promoting the pool's services and skills to the wider organisation.

Principal Accountabilities:

Provide insight and develop tactical solutions to issues and problems affecting single or multiple business functions.Develop new and optimise existing business processes to deliver performance improvement and business benefit.Development of the initial project concept, elaborating the primary business objectives, clarifying the scope and impacts of the proposed change and identifying the initial risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies that affect the successful outcome of the project.Orchestrate the construction of robust business cases for business change initiatives. Scrutinise suggested benefits, translate tangible benefits and identify additional benefits to maximise extracted value of the proposed change.Collaboration with business managers and other key stakeholders to capture and evaluate business requirements.Collaborate with Technology Managers, Architects and Project Managers to develop a variety of viable solutions to support differing expenditure, benefit capture and risk scenarios. Identify the optimal solution options and the structure by which they will be delivered.Assess the business impact of proposed changes, including minor changes to working conditions and practices, internal and external standards and requirements such as audit standards, data management standards, industry processes and legislationPresent proposal material to key stakeholders and the project team, including strategic partners and third party suppliers.Structure, plan and manage the business analysis work stream, ensuring adoption of best practice standards.Review solution designs, test strategy and business procedures to ensure consistency with the defined solution and delivery of the identified benefits.Provide leadership and direction through the development and implementation of the business change, promoting its benefits and galvanising commitment.Support business acceptance of developed solutions, including process and system walk through and business acceptance testing.Provide consultation to the design of the cut over and implementation activities, including data migrations, training and business reorganisation activities.

Nature and Scope:

The post holder will undertake business change assignments impacting one or more business functions. They will possess the experience and skills to influence and broker solutions with stakeholders, including senior managers.

Business Analysts may work on independent or project assignments. They will structure and plan the business analysis work stream and manage its execution, in conjunction with the Project Manager. On project assignments, they will work in partnership with other members of the project team, including the Architect, Development resources, Testing and other work stream leads.

The Technology function of UK Power Networks supports the whole of company, which has a wide geographical presence. Business Analysts will be expected to be flexible to support assignments based at locations different to their primary place of work.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Graduate or equivalent business career, with a firm foundation in business analysis.Proven investigative and analytical skills using a variety of standard techniques.Experience of developing business cases for business change projects, including financial and numerical modelling and appraisal skills.Experience of business process analysis and design techniques, including the use of modelling and collaborative tools.Knowledge of standard methods and technique, with the ability to select the appropriate approach for a particular assignment.Demonstrate good communication, presentation and written skills, with relevant experience of dealing with senior business managers and third parties.Knowledge of formal project management techniques, such as Prince2Good workshop facilitation and interview skills, including negotiation and influencing skills.ISEB Foundation in Business Analysis, IIBA or equivalent qualification desirable.

Strong business and industry acumen, with an understanding of UK Power Networks or the wider electricity sector and its challenges.Ability to be flexible and work analytically in a problem solving environment, with attention to detail, a commitment to quality and the ability to think strategically.Good communication and interpersonal skills, displaying confidence and professionalism.Proven ability to work independently and as a team member, demonstrating organisational, multi-tasking and time management skills.Sensitivity to business constraints, ambitions and operational objectives in area of assignment.
