Principal Engineer (Electrical Communications Test & Acceptance)

Would you like to play a key role within test and acceptance of communications equipment for nuclear submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Electrical Communications Test & Acceptance) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer (Electrical Communications Test & Acceptance), you will be working within an expanding team of electrical communications experts, primarily responsible for supporting the launch of a new test and acceptance facility for complex communications (electrical/ electronic) equipment. You will also be responsible for leading more junior members of staff in the creation of test policies and procedures, as well as a variety of other systems engineering activities.

This role will provide you with the chance to influence the testing and development of communication systems for future submarine programmes, working with the latest cutting edge technology and techniques. Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Electrical Communications Test & Acceptance) will involve:

Authoring and developing integrated test and evaluation plans, as well as determining and specifying test environments

Performing and managing active rig based trials / testing for both reference hardware/ software and production hardware/ software (including secure configurations)

Reviewing and supporting system qualification tests and test procedures to deliver product acceptance evidence

Investigating observations and problems revealed during testing, recommending resolution action and identification of solutions

Developing roadmaps to facilitate the incorporation of new technologies into the infrastructure test methods and environment

Managing system requirements, including definition, decomposition and compilation of compliance evidence

Supporting equipment and software integration trials on the submarine platform

Supporting bid and tendering activities for infrastructure projects, including task definitions, estimates and programme schedules

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer (Electrical Communications Test & Acceptance):

Essential:

An engineering background in one of the following areas: networks/ telephony/systems /electronics

Degree or equivalent qualifications or experience in electronics or similar discipline

Experience of test and acceptance activities within a complex engineering environment

Good understanding of requirements management

Demonstrable experience of writing/approving test procedures and technical specifications
Desirable:

Communications/military equipment domain knowledge
