Education and Health Partnership (EHP), based in central Manchester, is looking to work with a visual impairment specialist teacher on a part-time basis to provide education settings with immediate access to specialist teaching services.

EHP has exciting opportunities for specialist teachers join our Education Team in Greater Manchester, which includes specialist teachers, SENCOs and SEND consultants. The role will be largely school-based, however it may include some work within our offices. We have vacancies for specialist teachers in:
- Profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
- Physical impairment
- Multi-Sensory impairment (MSI)
- Hearing impairment (HI)
- Visual impairment (VI)
The role will require providing specialist teaching input into both mainstream and special educational needs (SEN) schools, across all age ranges. It will entail providing or overseeing screening, assessments, 1:1 and group interventions to children and young people; helping them work towards maximising their quality of life. Duties will include training education staff, parents and carers and collaborating with a wider MDT of speech & language therapists (SLTs), occupational therapists (OTs), psychologists, dietitians, school nurses and education staff. Responsibilities will also include involvement in meetings with teams around specific children, such as child at risk, child protection and SEN review teams.
What does it take to be successful in this role?
To be successful in this role you would need to:
- Provide a high quality of evidence-based specialist teaching to children of all ages in education settings
- Train school staff, therapists and parents and carers to effectively deliver appropriate interventions
- Be able to consider the holistic needs of each child when working to achieve the child’s goals and aspirations
- Help children and young people make significant progress
- Effectively work alongside, support and supervise other specialist teachers
- Develop a strong rapport with children, young people, education staff and families
- Act as a champion for the service and teaching as a profession
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Will have completed a PGCE or equivalent
- Qualified teacher
- Specialist training in one or more of the following areas; profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), physical impairment, multi-sensory impairment, hearing impairment, visual impairment
- Teaching experience
- Experience providing specialist assessments and interventions for children and young people
- Consultancy experience
Our ideal candidate will be a personable and dedicated professional with a good knowledge of the education system and their specialism. They will have a solid foundation of up to date practical techniques and interventions and will be confident in training and educating others. Impeccable communication skills are essential, as well as a collaborative, child-centred and evidence-based approach. The successful applicant will possess excellent organisational and time management skills, as well as a good eye for detail. Being flexible and able to carry out a range of mental health screening, assessments and interventions is required within this role. Knowledge of the SEND code of practice (2015) and other relevant legislation and guidelines is important when delivering services related to SEND. The successful applicant will be confident in managing and advising others.
As the role will involve travelling between locations, we would recommend having a driving licence and access to a car. We are also looking for a candidate who is willing to take annual leave outside of school term time.
