Principal Configuration Engineer - QEC
Would you like to play a key role in the support for the cutting-edge Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier ships during test and commissioning, as well as through-life support? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Configuration Engineer at our Portsmouth Naval Base site.
As a Principal Configuration Engineer, you will be working within the QEC Class Output Management (COM), alongside a team of Maintenance Engineers and Managers. You will be responsible for the Configuration Control, looking after the governance around data management for all aspects of the ship support. This includes technical drawings, manuals, handbooks, equipment lists, systems requirements and design change data.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Configuration Engineer will involve:
Ensuring governance for Engineering Configuration Management for the In-Service Support of the QEC
Being responsible for the development and maintenance of the QEC COM Configuration Management plan, policies and processes in order to enable delivery of the contractual requirements set out in MSDF
Ensuring configuration management of QEC information and influence the deployment and maintenance of related information systems, applications and toolsets to ensure a configured cohesive through life information set from which all the support products are derived and services delivered by the COM
Acting as the champion for support data management in the QEC COM ensuring that other COM departments provide timely input that will ensure the continued currency of the support products
Being responsible for ensuring the QEC Configuration Management System delivers credible baselines for each QEC vessel, identifying and, in agreement with the data owners, rectifying identified anomalies in the baselines, supported by pragmatic metrics
Continuing to evolve and implement policies and processes that will ensure that the configuration of the support dataset is known and reflects the change status of the ships, systems and equipment
Providing a focus for data and technical management services and capability across the QEC COM and into the wider Maritime Services arena to achieve effective technical data
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Qualified Engineer with experience of support activities within the defence environment
Working knowledge of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) activities
Experience of working with MoD business processes
Knowledge of considerations necessary for implementing and managing engineering change
Desirable:
Experience within the marine support environment
Royal Navy background
Appreciation of document management
