The role is responsible and accountable for the development, delivery and completion of Health, Fire and Food Safety training activities across the North of the business, to ensure compliance in accordance with legal requirements and the Roadchef Health and Safety Policy, Food Safety Management System and Fire Safety Log.

The role holder will ensure a constant drive for improving Health, Fire and Food Safety standards through supporting site and support office teams in their understanding of these requirements.

Responsibilities:

Operational Delivery

  • To develop Health, Fire and Food Safety Training programmes across the business to ensure legal and company requirements are met.
  • To identify areas where new programmes need to be established and co-ordinate their implementation.
  • Ensure that refresher training materials address Health, Fire and Food Safety needs of the business.
  • To measure effectiveness of Health, Fire and Food Safety Training programmes and adapt as required.
  • To support site teams to effectively deliver site-based Health, Fire and Food Safety training.
  • Partner key stakeholders and external consultants (where required) to ensure that programmes meet the needs of the business and give maximum benefit.
  • Providing a link between the Company and external training providers and / or awarding bodies appropriately as required.
  • Report to key stakeholders and the Company Health and Safety committee on training delivery, progress and future plans.
  • Review issues raised during Company and Brand audits and Enforcement Officer activities and provide Health, Fire and Food Safety training support as required.
  • Support induction of new Site Directors, Operations and Unit Managers to ensure their understanding of the Company Health, Fire and Food Safety Procedures and Policies and their responsibilities within these areas.
  • Deliver Health, Fire and Food Safety management training courses including level 3 Health & safety and Level 3 Food Safety courses.
  • Work with the company Training and Development Manager to support company Fastlane training programme, and other internal development programmes and national training calendar.
  • To ensure that training programmes are delivered in timely manner to address issues raised by site and brand teams.
  • Support the wider work of the Health and Food Safety Department in supporting the business to ensure Health, Fire and Food Safety compliance.
  • Maintain records of completed Health, Fire and Food Safety Training.
  • Support in reviewing, updating and communication of Roadchef Health, Fire and Food Safety Policies and Procedures.

Financial Delivery

  • To ensure that Health, Fire and Food Safety Training courses are delivered effectively within financial controls.
  • To ensure all direct costs are managed effectively.
  • Partner with senior management teams to identify current and future Health, Fire and Food Safety training needs in order to achieve company operational and commercial objectives
  • To ensure that delivery of training programmes are timed to meet the operational demands of site and business trading priorities.

Customer Focus

  • To ensure that training programmes are designed to improve the Health, Fire and Food Safety standards received by Roadchef customers, guests and visitors.
  • To address training needs identified by customer complaints and accidents


People Management

  • To drive change and a will do attitude in the business and create a focus and energy for people to achieve outstanding results in relation to Health and Food Safety compliance.
  • To proactively develop self and Site Teams by utilising structured Company development and training tools and further provide opportunities to enhance performance.
  • To effectively communicate utilising Commany communication tools taking into account the audience and tailoring own communication to create involvement and gain buy-in.
  • To provide visible leadership and hands on support to Site and Support Office teams.
  • Ensure that bespoke training programmes are designed and delivered to take into account learning needs and styles of candidates.
  • To liaise with other Support Office departments to assist them on Health and Food Safety compliance issues.

Skills/experience:

  • Proven experience of design and delivery of Health, Fire and Food Safety training programmes within the catering, retail and hospitality industry.
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering group and individual training solutions up to Senior Management levels.
  • Hold suitable subject area qualifications - for example: Level 4 Qualification (or equivalent or above) in Health and Safety, Fire Safety and Food Safety NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Hold suitable teaching qualifications, for example: Level 3 or 4 PTLLS or above & Level 3 or 4 NVQ in training and / or development
  • Proof of at least 30 hours of training in Health, Fire and Food Safety
  • Experience of E-Learning training programmes.
  • Must be a confident presenter, and be able to partner up to Senior level and communicate effectively to give clarity and understanding to others, especially with regards to Health, Fire and Food Safety compliance.
  • Must be enthusiastic and passionate about Health, Fire and Food Safety compliance.
  • Ability to work successfully with people at different levels and influence more senior Managers
  • Well organised, excellent at prioritising and managing time
  • Team orientated and will always support the wider business in achieving its goals
  • Ability to work on own initiative, setting standards for others and measuring performance

Other information:

This is a National Role across Roadchef Ltd's company estate, therefore overnight stays will be required in this role to fulfill the role duties.
