Brief Description

Provide specialist advice and technical leadership on the management of Structure Clearances and Track Position, focused on meeting route specific requirements. Act as the Route single point of contact for Gauging activity

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

1. Lead local structure gauging assurance activity on behalf of the Route Asset Management team for all aspects of gauging
2. Lead the provision of specialist advice on the management of Clearances and Track position within the Route.
3. Review, approve or recommend the gauging aspects of proposed designs for track, civils, structures, building, signalling, telecoms, services, etc. within agreed levels of Delegated Authority
4. Coordinate and monitor of responses by the National Gauging team, for advice to operators and manufacturers on the workability of gauging strategies and requests for gauging compatibility assessment of new and re-deployed rolling stock, and escalate issues and concerns accordingly.
5. For Safety Technical Engineering Directorate (STED) assessed vehicle introductions and route gauge clearance projects (including re-cascade of rolling stock within the route), coordinate and monitor the provision of gauge clearance analysis, challenge the interpretation of analyses provided, and escalate issues and concerns accordingly.
6. Provide specialist advice on gauge capability and assist with the strategic enhancement of key routes.
7. Act as the Programme interface for specification and monitoring of the databases for gauging and clearance information for the Route.
8. Monitor and influence the accuracy of gauging and clearance systems and data relating to the existence, configuration and modification history of gauge clearance with the route. Provide necessary assistance to determine compliance with suitability and robustness of maintenance regimes.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential
• Degree in a relevant subject or demonstrate equivalent experience
• Incorporated Engineer or working towards this status
• A sound knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards
• Relevant track engineering experience with substantial knowledge of track gauging and geometry

Desirable
• Chartered Engineer
• Knowledge of track and civil engineering, covering maintenance, design and renewals
• Experience of industry standard software
