We are working with a mainstream primary school in Hackney who are currently looking to recruit an Impact Officer to start in August.

The Impact Officer is based predominantly in a school and is the main link between the school and an organisation placing voluntary mentors, tutors and role models in schools, supporting pupils who may be from disadvantaged areas. You will be responsible for managing the team of volunteers as well as coordinating, monitoring and the evaluating all the activities they perform.

You will play a key role in the management, training and retention of volunteers and will have pastoral oversight for the team and their relationships with those they come into contact with (children, parents, education professionals) while also monitoring and evaluating progress of volunteers throughout the year. From Monday to Thursday, volunteers are integral to the school day. They encourage pupils both in and out of the classroom to engage with and enjoy learning, while developing their own skills. On Fridays they meet to share experiences and benefit from additional training, delivered by experts from across the education, business and voluntary sectors.

The role is primarily school-based, Monday to Thursday and is office based on Fridays and during school holidays. You will report to an office-based line manager and are responsible for the line management of up to 13 full-time school-based volunteers. You will have leadership and coordination responsibilities to the volunteers, clearly communicating expectations to all involved.

Tasks will involve:

Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of the volunteers' impact in school in a timely and complete manner. Ensure that team projects and initiatives are completed to a high standard, on time and on budget (if applicable).

Meeting and liaising with designated school staff to discuss school requirements. Converse with school middle and senior leaders and respectfully hold your own in the context of using the team well and appropriately in support of school ideals

Be the first point of contact for school to escalate any concern regarding the performance or conduct of the team or individual volunteers. Resolving matters and knowing when to escalate more serious concerns to senior staff;

Ensure that school provide adequate and timely access to pupil data;

Lead by example, engender a sense of mission and purpose and connection to activities carried out by the team. Build an effective and cohesive team. Train, support and develop volunteers in school service, preparation for their careers, employability, personal development;

Assisting with interviewing and assessing future volunteers;

Using person-centred coaching style to provide line management for the team, supporting induction, training, observation in class and feedback, performance reviews and disciplinary (if applicable);

Regular one-to-ones and team meetings with volunteers to focus activity on desired impact associated with pupils' progress and performance;

Coordination of volunteer allocation and timetabling inside and outside school;

Overseeing adherence to personal development plans. Help volunteers with goal setting and action plans regarding their future careers and personal development.

Term time hours: 07.30-17.30 (Mon-Thurs), 9.00-16.00 (Fri). School holiday hours: 9.00-17.00.

The school is near an overground station and is also accessible by a number of popular bus routes.
