In the UK, the simulators we build train the next generation of pilots for fighter jets, transporters and search and rescue helicopters. We currently have an opportunity for an experienced and talented Software Quality Engineer to join our forward thinking Avionics Quality team based out of Crawley. As a Software Quality Engineer you will provide Quality Assurance (QA) support to assigned projects. You will also plan and undertake quality surveillance activities for software, working with suppliers and internal integration teams to achieve requirements. The role will include predominately Software Quality assurance, advising the quality team where software expertise is required, conducting software related audits, surveillance of subcontractors, addressing customer complaints, liaising with Customers Quality Assurance Representatives (QAR), identifying areas for process improvement and supporting or leading improvement activities. This position would suit a Software Engineer who has a genuine interest in moving into Quality Assurance, or someone who has experience in Software Quality Assurance and audit and is looking for a new challenge.Duties and responsibilities: Plan and Implement software quality assurance (QA) on assigned projects in accordance with company reference system and contract and regulatory requirements. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the quality function. Work with QA and project teams to assist in meeting software objectives and deadlines. Generate QA inputs for project reviews and lifecycle-related design reviews. Lead and undertake project QA activities to ensure that software tasks are carried out in accordance with plans. Perform software related audit, assessment and surveillance activities and follow up non-conformances. Offer professional advice to projects on software QA matters. Identify trends, issues, and opportunities associated with processes or products. Contribute to and enhance the developing knowledge base within the quality function. Increase customer satisfaction in the provision of quality services. Effectively implement the quality processes. Support the continuous improvement of the quality processes. Skills and experience required: Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Physics, Mathematics etc???) Experience of working within a software quality assurance environment in the defence industry or similar. Detailed Knowledge of current software engineering, quality and related working practices. Knowledge of tools used in software development such as DOORS, Teamcenter, Subversion, Jira. Knowledge of software development lifecycles including, Waterfall and Agile. Excellent communicator with strong influencing and persuasion skills. Ability to facilitate when working with teams. Willingness to challenge the status quo and improve on the standard.
