The role will provide support for the integration of new technologies such as battery storage, PV and tidal generation including: engagement with National Grid and Distribution Network Operators to provide and manage grid connections for new technology generation projects; the front end design and specification of electrical infrastructure works and apparatus for new technology generation projects; the management of design, installation, testing and commissioning activities for new technology electrical infrastructure works; investigation of new technology opportunities; investigation of opportunities relating to ancillary services; and, support for research and development programmes. The role will also include support as necessary for conventional renewable generation projects.

Investigate new and emerging technologies in the power generation field and provide support in their integration.
Provide innovative solutions for the integration of new and emerging technologies in the power generation field.
Investigate opportunities for the provision of ancillary services to National Grid at new and existing sites.
Preparation and submission of grid connection documentation including connection applications, modification applications, data registration documents, and Grid Code compliance documentation.
Manage the specification, tender and negotiation of Grid and Electrical Infrastructure contracts relating to new technology projects.
Day to day management of grid and electrical infrastructure contractors and any sub-contractors or consultants. This may include duties as the Project Manager, Package Manager, and/or Engineer.
Preparation and communication of contract documentation, scopes of work, technical requirements, design requirements and specifications.
Participation in contractual negotiations where appropriate.
Review and acceptance of electrical system studies, contractor designs, drawings, specifications, project plans, method statements, risk assessments, quality plans and other project documentation.
Address technical queries raised by contractors and suppliers.
Manage the commissioning process for generation projects.
Site management of contractors, their sub-contractors and agents during the construction and commissioning phase of new technology projects.
Ensure contractors, their sub-contractors and agents carry out all activities in a safe and controlled manner.
Monitor contractor progress against schedule ensuring any slippage or incomplete scope is reported and recovery plans are agreed and implemented.
Monitor contractor costs to ensure works remain within the contracted budget.
Prepare appropriate documentation for variations involving changes to scope, cost or schedule.
Review and acceptance of contractor test plans to ensure that all systems are adequately tested and commissioned.
Liaise with new technology providers to ensure all electrical design data and information is available to all parties.

Knowledge

H&S legislation and CDM regulations.

A good understanding of the design process for electrical systems and use of simulation tools such as PowerFactory or PSCAD would be an advantage.
Communication and SCADA systems would be an advantage.
Knowledge of ancillary services provision would be an advantage.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a degree in electrical engineering or similar and preferably chartered membership of an appropriate body.

Experience:

Experience of H&S legislation and CDM regulations.
Strong technical record in the generation industry.
Highly proficient in electrical engineering in the renewables environment.
Background in research and development.
Dealing with National Grid and Distribution Network Operators in the provision of grid connections for generation projects.
Site management of contractors during project construction, commissioning and operation.
Specification, design, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance of electrical infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
Design optimisation, Front End Engineering and Design, and Due Diligence for electrical infrastructure works.
Preparation of technical specifications and other technical documents.
Experience in tender/bid evaluation.
Conducting technical and commercial negotiations with contractors/grid companies
